Is the built in manual out dated?
« on: March 04, 2012, 03:18:04 pm »

Just starting to learn to play the game and I found the built in help manual with '?', but I want to know if it's at all outdated before I dive in.  Thanks in advance!

Outdated? Not that I'm aware of. Vague? Very much so.

EDIT: Wait, that's an old guide. http://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/DF2012:Quickstart_guide <THIS. REALLY.

That flowchart in the link is the most useful flowchart I have ever seen.  Thank you.

I think ingame manual is such unclear and hard to use. Wiki is best tutorial for DF.

The manual won´t get you very far. I tried getting into DF by reading it, but it just doesn´t have enough precise information on how to do stuff. The wiki however is excellent. I´ve read the play-along tutorial which is stickied here and from then on looked up everything else in the wiki. And asked a lot of questions here. And it still took me a couple of weeks to halfways get into the gameplay.
