how do i enable them as a craftable weapon type? thanks.

Go look in entity_default.txt to see how civs are allowed their various equipment items as being natively produced.

You need to copy them from the tools file to the weapons file,giving them a new ID, and then allow the dwarven civ to make the weapon version.

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.
