i tried to use dwarf companion, but the wiki wanted me to download several files, and when i had done all of that i wasnt sure how to actually run companion.

is there a version that has everything self contained? if not, can someone elaborate on the wiki to try and make things a bit more clear?

Double-click dfcompanion_prototype.py.

It will launch.

If things arent working nicely, try opening a command prompt, cd-ing to the directory with the dwarf companion files, and running dfcompanion_prototype.py from there. Even if it doesnt work, it should give some feedback on whats wrong. Ive always needed to do some hackery to get it running (a win2k issue), but then, I also completely rejig the main dc display, so I dont mind.

There is a self-executable. version 0.10. Works also with 38c.
To find it, look for a link on (I believe page 9) of the Dwarf companion thread in the general discussion forum.
Oh, and don't forget to install GTK runtime as well (second step on the DC page)

A self exacutable!?!?!?! *dies* *comes back to life and searches wiki and forums*
um...........it doesn't seem to be there. Can anyone point it out to me please?

*edit* I should learn to read slower, it was the general discussion forum not the discussion page on the wiki. My bad, and taking a look at that forum maybe I should lurk there more often, lots of useful stuff!
