AutoHotKey is a virus?
« on: April 28, 2008, 08:06:00 am »

Some file invovled with autohotkey is apparently a trojan horse. It's getting picked up this way by AVG Free version. Firstly, is it a virus? I got it off the wiki, so I expected it to be clean. Secondly, has anyone else gotten this virus? If so, has it done any damage to you?

EDIT: The specific file is AutoHotKeySC.bin

The link from wiki brought me here: http://www.autohotkey.com/download/

I downloaded it and it's fine for me (scanned with NOD32).
I think this is a problem with detection, can you post the full threat warning? There's a possibility that the antivirus detects it as virus because it's a side program which has very high priveleges and possibilities to tweak your system.

code:

Scan Log
Version of virus signature database: 3055 (20080425)
Date: 28.04.2008  Time: 19:31:13
Scanned disks, folders and files: C:\Program Files\AutoHotkey\
Number of scanned objects: 389
Number of threats found: 0
Time of completion: 19:31:19  Total scanning time: 6 sec (00:00:06)

I read that a few people on the AutoHotKey forums were saying that they had false positives. It said updating AHK from v1.0.46.08 to v1.0.47 solved it.

False positives are nothing strange. I even had one program I wrote myself recognised as virus by AVG, and I'm quite sure I never wrote a virus.

Okay, thanks guys. I was a bit worried about it, but I'll just ignore it now.

Any program that hooks into another can get detected as a virus.
Especially with AVG.

Yeah, I had a few programs vanish from my hard disk a while ago (not this hard drive). I thought it was a virus... turned out it was the virus scanner. Something like .kkrieger that uses lots of programming tricks and self-modifies is probably going to show up as a false positive.
