Making a roof out of bridges?

I'm trying to make a large building for my dwarves to live in, except the amount of floors to make the roof is huge. Can I use bridges to make them, and if I can, would they make everything under the ceiling count as "inside"?

Nope, bridges do nothing raised or lowered...

I had hoped to use a similar system to stop water from freezing under a skylight   :confused:

What?  Bridges do flag the area underneath them as "inside"!  I've been doing it for ages!

Water will still freeze regardless of what you put over it, as the only place it will stay unfrozen is underground.  Not just inside, fully subterranean.


And yeah, scaffolding is absolutely essential in some cases...  If only for preserving one's sanity.

It works, but dwarfs go "underground" when ordered inside, and not "inside". So they will leave the bridge-covered building when this order is active.
