... Cats are dangerous creatures?
« on: February 26, 2012, 01:04:32 am »

I think this would be more of a bug than anything, but it was pretty funny...

An animal handler is bringing a cat inside when a siege occurs, so I set my cilivian alert status to Siege, which applies them all to an inside burrow.

I notice a lot of red text flashing, so I look into my announcements window. I had !!136!! pages of:

"Urist cancels handle Large Creature: Animal inaccessible."
"Urist cancels store item in barrel: Handling dangerous creature."

I look, and the handler is inside the burrow, and the cat is outside. They got stuck right on the line.

The question must be asked, however...

I've had cats kill titans and megabeasts, so yes, they're dangerous.

That's because some of them are literally made out of powder.

How about the one made of steel who dodged an attack by a cat off a 120z high fall?

Yep, this is a minor bug to do with animal handling, happens when you shear/milk a creature also, no biggy, you can just ignore it basically.

Except in your particular case, where the burrow was causing actual problems.

Turned out not to be a problem. I had a bridge there to lock down the fortress, burrow ran up to it. So guess what happened to the cat? :-D

As someone who has tried to handle a ...somewhat reluctant... cat in real life:
Yes, they are dangerous. Even if you're wearing leather work gloves. Still have the scar on the back of my hand to prove it.

Certainly you could argue that DF is a lot like The Sims, only... you know... with more vomit and decapitation.
If you launch a wooden mine cart towards the ocean at a sufficient speed, you can have your entire dwarf sail away in an ark.

A while back I had a 3 year old world with 2 named cats that had a single kill each.

I swear they were the only thing ever engraved on anything.

I've had cats kill a mummy that was chasing me in adventure mode. They make for pretty good temple guardians, it seems.

They have mind-control beams, that animal handler obviously had  very high levels of willpower, and thus he was fighting the cat telephaticly, trying to fend off the mind-control.

EDIT:

and this. very much. i have a cat that looks a bit more like a small black lion imo.
