I found some (Hidden Fun Stuff) and received the message:

Your ruler has arrived dressed as a peasant

How does this work? I see the peasant who is supposed to be king. He appears as a "friendly" peasant on the unit list. He's just loitering at the edge of the map. Will he ever join my people?

The current version is bugged with respect to Urist McKingy showing up when you find the Hidden Fun Stuff.  A random dwarf shows up instead of the King.

If he happens to have an "accident" would the real king possibly come later on?

I don't think there's any way to rejigger it so you really get the king... but nothing bad will happen if you off that particular dwarf, so go ahead and try if you'd like.
