Too many migrants!

Let us ignore the unending horde of children that makes the now nerfed nobles look like hard workers in comparison; I don't need 50 hunters for Armok's sake!

My newest fort is currently low population, so when the inevitable mass-immigrant wave comes in, how do I best get rid of those that I don't need?

Hunters have innate ability with crossbows, if I'm not mistaken.  Draft them!

This is true. Typically hunters show up with thier own crossbow, 30 or so bolts, a quiver and thier own armor. If nothing else they can be a base for an army, as they won't get unhappy thoughts as they generally have at least novice in marksdwarfship.

I have not gotten a single hunter who showed up with a crossbow and quiver.

The core idea is sound though; my map is basically elf-paradise with all the trees in it, and I'm currently having a barrel surplus because of all the wood to use.

Plan is to make some crappy bolts and crossbows out of wood, and let them go get eaten by crocodiles. If by some miracle they kill one, then my Great Butcher will slice the corpse up and I have more food. Either way, I win!

EDIT: I'm running out of crossbows to use. NEW PLAN

Basically, build a giant bridge hovering right over a massive amount of water. Link it up to a lever. Order all the cheese makers and pressers to stand on the bridge. Pull the lever.

HEY GIANT CAVE SPIDERS, ENJOY YOUR DINNER!

Take all of those migrants, remove all hunter ammunition, observe as 50 Dwarfs zerg rush every single one-humped camel that spawns on your map with teeth and fist.

Cheese makers aren't worthless now! Don't kill them! If you have a decent amount of animals cheese can become a pretty damn good food source!
