That's the idea though. The dwarves don't run themselves. The idea is for you to think up solutions to their dwarfy problems.

I still don't understand why people who are willing to exploit the nickname feature don't just edit out the vamps.
When I use it it's because I want to use a vampire for something, usually a Well of Unlife or a perma-bookkeeper/manager.

Well, yea, once you know. Or some people might have always used the nickname feature and want to micromanage more than have secret vampires. But if there is no reason other than to root out the vampires... *shrug* Seems like lost !FUN!

Even having used the nickname exploit i still had kills, children being sucked dry in a dorm / meeting room. Not only no accusers, parents didnt seem to mind the loss.

Put one between two fortifications (or whatever) with some bars under them, under which your water supply flows to your waterfalls/mist dispensers... now when things go downhill, pull the leaver and poke them full of spear holes, have them bleed into the water - vampire-mist-blood-spray-your fort for a instant boost in military strength?

I would love to be able to build a defense that turns my enemys into vampires ontop of a solid silver-floor - that sets vampires on fire...

Trying several embarks plus irl work has kept me quite busy, to the point where i still need to have vampires in my forts (giant thrips corpses massacred my last embark... these things put up a hell of a fight). But once i do have quite a few vampires i envision using them as elite shock troops. Their lack of needs means i can put them to train permanently, only to unleash them against siegers when the need arise.

I use mine for punishment, put them in a burrow with a bed, and when you need to punish someone, assign them to the same burrow
