Fortress mode with other races

Can you be elves or humans in fortress mode? If so, how?

Yes.

1. delete your saves.

2. find entity_default.txt in your \raw\objects\ folder.

3. find [CIV_CONTROLLABLE] in the dwarf entry and delete it.

4. Add [CIV_CONTROLLABLE] somewhere in the elf or human entry. NOTE: You will also need to copy-paste the line for DIGGER: and the line for battle axe, assuming you want them to, you know, be able to dig or chop stuff down.

5. Generate a new world. Voila!

I'm tempted to try this with gobbos, now that I know how... does anyone know if you get sieged by humans or dwarves when you're playing gobbos? I'm assuming no, but it would be cool.

That's annoying- why not give users the option of choosing their fortress's race upon fortress creation?

I think you can, I remember hearing the starting civ you choose determines your race.

It's not supported yet =P

One day, we'll be able to play anything.  We will even be able to manage a goblin fortress which sieges dwarven fortresses.

You can add civ_controllable to humans after a world was created and have both humans and dwarves as choices when you start. Can do it with elves too, but I haven't tried them.

The humans work fine - I have a running fortress. Immigrants come, caravans come, all the larger items can be made and work, etc.

If you try to generate a world with multiple civ_controllable entitys it screws up though. When I tried with dwarf human and elf set to controllable, it made a world with human settlements, human mountain halls, and human forest retreats  :D

And the elves or dwarves weren't anywhere.
