Fast up/down stair designation
« on: February 20, 2012, 12:19:28 am »

How many times have you said to yourself, "Self...I'd love to dig a stair shaft that goes down to magma, but it's so time consuming to press all the buttons!"  Well, stop giving yourself RSI.  Just select up/down stair...left-click on the place you want to put it...and then hold down the > button.  It'll designate on every single level, and you don't even have to click, press, or release anything.

Yay science!

It's even faster to do it using enter, >, enter. This way it can be done across an area, which is better because 1x1 stairways get crowded easily.

Or designate over z levels. That also works.

Designations now can be done across AND up and down z levels. You can start the designation 10 z levels up, move it into a 3x3 pattern, then go down 10 z levels, hit enter, and you've made 10 z levels of 3x3 staircases.

Indeed, finally being able to make multi-z-level designations is GLORIOUS.

Designate the entire embark from the highest z-level to the lowest to be channeled. You know you want to...

Centration. Similar to Spacestation 13, but in 3D and first-person. Sounds damn awesome.

Always use the multiple-z-level designation feature with deep channeling. You'll have more Fun that way.

I tried this knowing what would happen and it is indeed FUN.

35 of 37 miners dead by the time they finished.   I actually think just a single miner might be moderately successful at it.  Science shal be done.

Don't feel bad about my killing 35 dwarves - they weren't, they were elves.
