Ear infection : As dangerous that I think ?
« on: February 18, 2012, 11:15:11 pm »

Hello everyone, I'm new on this forum and fairly new on the game. I'm in love with the adventure mod (I still need to test the Fortress mod).

Anyway, I've fought numerous ennemies and I've been smashed on the ear one time. Now it's infected. Will I die from it ? Is there a way to heal it ? Or just keeping me alive, anything.
It tried to look on Google or on the forum but I did not found any clear answer about that, even more since the version just changed. I also don't know if what happen in fortress mod can happen in adventure mod.

Anyway, looking forward to your answers ! Thanks !

you will die... eventually, it takes a really long time, and  even the best adventurers will last about a year until they have either depopulated the world or been killed by an ambush. i know werewolfism will cure it, but i also know elves don't get infected, so necormancer or vampirism may also cure it.

Hum... Thanks for the answer. I'm a human fortunately. So I should aim at becoming either a werewolf, a vampire or a necromancer ?
This looks like a cool quest. Becoming a "cursed" creature to avoid death. I like this actually.

I wish adventure mode first aid was more involved than just ripping arrows out of your body and fast-traveling to heal. I certainly hope this isn't being set aside for a year-long arc, it's really quite a small thing comparatively, and it would make the adventure mode so much more immersive.

First, welcome to our humble forums, populated by crazed gunman, people that weaponize every peat in the game and so on and so forth.

Second, yes, you will eventually die. its the most feared plague, the shallow infected cut.
were-ism will cure  it, but im not sure if vampirism or necromanceism will.
Also, you can be a were-necromancer or a vampomancer but not a werebeast and a vampire.
So its your choice.
Also, necromancers towers are quite easy to find, they are big purple I's on the log map.
Vampires will usually be law-givers of some civilization and have tons of thing on them made out of elf, goblin, kobold and human bones/hair/skin.
werebeasts will usually be naked peasants hiding in some lairs, spam surroundings to find those.

i forgot to mention you can retire, make a new adventurer who is legendary biter and bite your ear/infected part off... proven to work... and i found out that elves can get infections.. but i think they work slower.

Sadly, however, I have been in this situation before and was told this before and found that the ear could not be bitten off due to its smashedness, or the way ears are in the game, or something. May have been a special case of not working.

Indeed we can't remove the infected ear like other part of the body. I just raided a whole necromancer tower and learned the secret of life and death. Now I wonder several things :

1.I still have an infection to the hear, will I die from it even though I'm a necromancer ?
2.How does pacific NPC will see me now ? Can I still go into village to rest ? If I can't, where can I go ?

NPC's will treat you normally. Actually, the hilarious thing is, they'll welcome you even if your zombie horde is ripping them apart as you speak to them.

However, you also don't need to sleep (or eat or drink) anymore.

A fourth option was to find an evil area and get caught in a transmogrifying mist. Happened to one of my adventurers, turned into a murk lurker or somesuch thing. I'm not sure if he could die after that, conceivably, as murk-creatures are considered pretty unkillable short of magma and atom-smashing.

:D hey that's the thing I figured out! Of course, someone could have thought of "Retiring your adventurer, making a new adventurer to pinch off the infected bits, unretiring the 1st guy," it's not exactly a mindblowing idea.

But anyway OP, you say you can't bite/pinch it off? Crap.
Um, well, it's still a good idea to remove infectable parts of an adventurer you've come to care about. I've found out that adventurers don't actually need any fingers on their hands to be able to grasp things, but even for super[race]ly tough characters, you should space out the removals over a few nights, or else they'll bleed to death.
