Skip years
« on: February 20, 2012, 07:15:16 am »

I usually play some sort of role-playing games as an adventurer. When I play dwarf mode I usually do it to progress the world history some way. Either just trying to skip some years fast by making a fortress that can substain 400 fps and just wait, or sometimes I try to change diplomacy such as starting wars with the elves etc.

So for me it would be very convenient if you could skip for a year or maybe then years. Such as you can retire as a peasant, wait ten years and then continue on your adventure.

On a side note, it would be very helpful if you could get civilization information in adventure mode, such as flags in towns telling what civilization the town belongs to.

In the current dev goals for the trade arch.

I also believe if you turn on the map you can scroll down to all the places you listed and it will show you towns/cities and their civ.

I see, but that would only be while still being ingame? Or would it also include the possibility to skip some years and let worlds history work as normal while not being and adventurer.

I simply can't seem to find it, can you show with a screenshot? Still, having flags and banners in cities, keeps and towns would be a nice addition to the game.

There's many problems with "just letting the world gen take over" fortress and adventures. For a start World Gen doesn't gen past the year you stopped it at. There's also the problem with how an adventurer might act after he's retired and not to mention thinks like fluids in fortress (where people make clocks and computers). All that stuff would be very hard to handle and possibly very CPU intensive

As for the Civ thing mentioned before you can open up the Adventure Log/Map using Q. It looks like this:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
It takes a little bit of learning to figure out just what and where it's refering to but it is possible to work out. I agee though that towns and cities need much more flavour but that's all coming which would most likely be the Army Arch.

Yeah, I guess it would possibly cause some problems at its current state to jump back to world gen.

Especially since it took 8 hours for my computer to get to year 300 when I tried to make the biggest possible map with most possible civilizations. At that time it was so slow I had to crash the game using the task manager.

Anyway, thanks for showing me that. I am on a quest to kill a specific civilization while leaving the others untouched. Needed some way to spot the difference. lol
