Death March
« on: February 20, 2012, 09:30:59 pm »

The war started a year, ten years, 100 years ago. When it started doesn't matter, you only know that you couldn't stop it from starting. And even if you could, only you would survive. This is assured. Today is the end of your hometown. Only you will survive the invasion. This is assured. You are cursed to stay alive, no matter what. This is your punishment, and you will suffer through it.
You woke to the sounds of thunder, on a mild, June day. You look out to the average scene, and observe buildings around your home collapse, spreading debris everywhere. Cannons. You grab a pistol from your father's room, ignoring the screams of fright coming from your mother in the living room. A gunshot is heard. Your mother is dead. You are alive. And so you will march.

Name: Derrik Lich
Age: 17
Bio: Maybe you were a sinner and this is hell, maybe you are the only human plaything to a sadistic program keeping you alive to suffer. It really doesn't matter anymore. To some endless pain makes them go insane, but it has only made you forget, like the weathering of a stone. Right now you have the form of a seventeen year old boy who up until now has lived with his parents. You'd heard news about the war but nobody ever thought you would be fighting on your soil. With the constant bombardment of media coupled with your day to day life of school, workout, sleep, never vearing it has left you with a sort of dull hazy depression and an enamouring rage without an outlet. This feeling makes continuing living look sort of lack luster and gives you a recklessness so when the oportunity to go forth and fight, without thinking you jumped at the chance.

Begin sneaking around outside, observing what forces in the area. If the opportunity presents itself you remain ready to sneak up and kill a threat very quickly so you can get something better than this shitty .22 and your cotton PJs.

Where exactly in the building are we? If we're on the first floor we should jump out of a window and start sneaking away, since they're either inside the house already or close enough to shoot through the windows. Actually, if we're on the second floor we should jump out of a window, but only if we can land on something soft.

Also: The side of the house that the living room is on? Don't go near it, or even in its direction.

You calmly walk back into your room and grab your ID, after all, it could come in useful someday. Who knows? You do. It won't. But it's always nice to have a reminder that at least a part of you is human. Derrik Lich. You've never liked your name, but then, you've never liked living. So you deal with it. Your survival is assured, so you have no reason not to go to the living room. But dying still hurts, no matter how temporary it tends to be. So you choose the less painful option.
You walk into the cellar, making sure to close it as quietly as possible behind you. You'll miss this house, even if it's filled with nothing but cold, bitter memories. You open a hatch onto an old balcony that's long been covered. The less painful option is still painful, which you take note of as you throw yourself to the ground. You pick yourself up from the ground as a cannonball hits your home. Clearly they have no qualms with killing their own allies. Or maybe it's another part of your curse, you've never quite cared enough to think about it. The pain from falling is immediately taken away by the curse, and your body is fully restored.

Turn the safety off on your weapon and begin sneaking, looking for any straggling infantry to pick off. Getting a better weapon and an outfit to fit in is important. Also try and remember any acquaintances you've had that may be able to help you, or even a neighbor who could lend you some supplies.

on the bio: Whadaya goina do? Sounded better than Chuck Norris' cousin.  :D

You slowly turn off the safety on your father's gun. Each and every hundredth of a second feels like an eternity to you. You knew this day would come, but as you've said before. Dying hurts, no mater how temporary. You look up at the sky to try and work out the time. It's still early morning, so you have time before night falls, and you have to deal with your least favorite time of day.
Feeling a bit too exposed, even for your standards, you decide to try and get something by killing any soldiers that are on their own. But instead of doing that, you just drag one of the soldiers killed by the earlier cannon blast out of your home before anyone notices. His gun was mangled, but you do manage to get some body armor, a helmet, and actual pants off of him. The pants and vest are a bit loose, you're clearly too scrawny for either, but it's a small inconvenience, and easily worked around. As you prepare to leave, you notice that a bit of pistol ammo and his knife was lucky enough to survive the blast as well. The knife has the phrase "love and grace" carved into the handle. How lovely.

(You guys got lucky and got a custom weapon. When a weapon has (#d) and (#m) that is its max and min damage. Armor always blocks the amount given. Don't get attached to armor.)

> Wear the soldier uniform over your pajamas so that from a distance, you will look like a soldier. Immediately observe your surroundings. Head in the direction of higher ground while avoiding urban areas or tall buildings lest they be toppled by artilary. Try to find a vantage point to scout out where the enemy force is and what your next move will be.

You look back at the soldier you stole from and briefly consider just outright taking his uniform. But you don't. You've already taken everything you needed, and you it's best to let the dead rest. Even if the dead in question killed your family. Thinking back, the only two in this village likely to not die other than yourself would be your friends. All two of them, They're the only people in town not originally from here. They're also the only ones who know of your curse.
You calmly begin moving to the hill in the "backyard" of town, not expecting anything. The walk is short, uninteresting, and filled with the sounds of screaming dead people. You wonder why they always scream, it's not as though they continue to experience the pain of dying once they're dead, but you stop caring immediately. Your friends are at the hill, only slightly injured. And one of them has a watch.
Before going to speak with them, you look around, and see that the enemy soldiers are already nearly done killing everyone, most have begun moving out of town.

Grab your friends and try to find some shelter or a hiding place in the rural out of town area. Whisper "They are almost on us." To them as you move.

You walk up to your friends to their extreme surprise. You aren't sure why they're surprised, but you drop the topic. You grab their hands and begin dragging them to where the curse is telling you to go. An old, abandoned factory. It takes about an hour, and your friends twitch and squeal at the slightest of noises. They're obviously afraid, but you've promised to guarantee their survival. Not because you feel they'll be happier about it, but because the curse is telling you to.
The factory looms over your head as you approach the door. You try to open it, but find that it takes all three of you pushing at once to even have a chance of opening it. You check your friend's watch after getting the door open and see that's about 1:36. At least the sun won't be setting for a while, so you have plenty of time to stay normal.
