Well without stones?
« on: December 13, 2007, 05:15:00 pm »

This is only my second fortress and it's in an area without accessible stone; there's four levels of soil and the -5th is stone but the -4th is flooded with water.

I'm doing fine building stuff out of wood; but I noticed some thirsty dwarves so I figured I'd make a well. But you need a mechanism and apparently I can't use wood for that. Any solution or is this doomed?

Also, I don't quite understand how the dwarves drink if there's no well (except for booze). You don't see them running to a lake from time to time... or do they?

thanks!

Sober dwarves are unhappy and unproductive dwarves.

Make booze. Lots of booze. The only use for water is to prevent injured dwarves from a thirsty death as other dwarves will only feed them water, not booze. For healthy dwarves, if there is booze available they will always drink that in preference to water, and therefore stay happy and productive.
