Is there a way to disable work cancellation zones?
« on: December 11, 2007, 05:27:00 pm »

...or to disable fear responses?

Edit: this is seriously killing my fortress.  My architects are bailing out thanks to a terrestrial enemy 4 z-levels away.

With what, my magical flying Dwarves?

Oh, right, tunnels.  Nevermind.

Still can you?  I was having the same issue with Hypnotoad, and I had no opportunity to kill him.

Edit: wow, he killed all the new migrants.  What is this guy made of, Lead?

Turn off fear in the init file?

The word ``fear`` does not appear in my 33e init.

By "init" was meant "raw." The file you want is /raw/objects/creatures_default.txt (or something like that) and you want to find the dwarf entry and add the [NOFEAR] tag to it somewhere. Suddenly your dwarves are fearless! I think this is technically cheating, but it seems viable if you can't get anything done.

Given the general shape of coins and what most people seem to find the minted variety useful for: "Rounds".

I thought the [NOFEAR] tag only disabled fleeing?

As you journey to the center of the world, feel free to read the death announcements of those dwarves that suffer your neglect.

One billion b-balls dribbling simultaneously throughout the galaxy. One trillion b-balls being slam dunked through a hoop throughout the cosmos. I can feel every single b-ball that has ever existed at my fingertips, I can feel their collective knowledge channeling through my veins. Every jumpshot, every rebound and three-pointer, every layup, dunk and free throw.

Ah, nuts.  I just tried the raw thing, and both fleeing and disabling is occurring.  I threw it in during the Dwarf portion... is there another topic where this is discussed?  I doubt I am the first to ask about this.

Edit: is it necessary to start a new game?  That would not make sense.

The game does not read directly from the raws, they read from the object files.  when you create a new world it creates new object files from the raws.  Raws are text files readable by humans, the object files are binary files readable by computers.  We don't speak the same language as the machines, that's what compilers are for.

If the raws were treated like the init, the game would take longer to load, and you could easily screw up the game this way.

So yeah, That's not going work if you want to keep this fortress.

No, it will work, as long as you restart dwarf fortress. I've modded mid fortress before, it's just NEW objects that need a new world.

Son of a--

Well, thanks for the help.  Quick question before I implement this, though: can someone confirm for me whether [NOFEAR] affects fleeing, work cancellation, or both?
