The sky fell on/flooded me.
« on: February 15, 2012, 03:32:15 am »

Immediately after embarking...

A section of the cavern has collapsed!

That's a mix of mist and various soil types, mostly sand and loam.

There are also tiles of 7/7 water on the ground, that was presumably displaced or fell.
And also a few sandstone pillars, and, high up, a bunch of floating water, above which is where the cavein appeared to have came from.

Save: http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=5507

Edit: This left everything covered in 3-4/7 water and it' very slowly draining.

...and now there are waterfalls on the sides of the map.

A tiny, foul-tempered humanoid creature that dwells in the evil mountains. They are known to enjoy drinking liquor and will take any unguarded supplies of booze.

I've had this happen on a much smaller scale before in older versions, around volcanoes and oceans for some reason, some small chunk will be generated detached and free-floating and collapses upon being observed.

I'm not sure what happened here is the same thing, though.

I am getting something similar happening with the new release.  But instead of the sky it is the entire world.  Collapses right out from under my poor dwarves.  Save file is uploaded here: http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=5508

If you waited a while, and then abandoned/reclaimed so that you have mostly 1-2/7 water, you could probably make a fortress here.

I'm curious about what exactly is collapsing.

Maybe you could turn off collapses in the .int file and load the same embark and see what sort of landmass is hovering up there.

Based on just the screenshot, it kind of looks like the wagon collapsed.  Maybe the game created a small plateau disconnected from the ground to spawn the wagon on top of?

I did this and embarked east of the old embark--I didn't have save on embark on.

It appears that the first cavern's water and ground ended up spawning in the sky.

The pattern of the mist makes me think of cavern water. Didn't Toady say something a bug causing caverns to spawn above ground? He said he fixed it, but maybe he missed something.
