Anyone know if SSD has any impact on the game? I'd imagine that it wouldn't, but you never really know.

Also, I'd look at the HP dm1z. Surprise, surprise, MZ is pimping out an HP. :P

A netbook? I was thinking of something with processing power in the 3 Ghz. area.

I don't need to have a dual or quad core. I just need a laptop that plays DF really well that is about a thousand bucks. Single core is A-OK.
if i can still find a single-core for a thousand bucks ill eat my shoe, for now, look for any intel in the i5s, i7s section, shit the i3s can run the game fine. And i doubt you spend more than 600 bucks depending what you want.

I was expecting something more complex for some reason.
Well its not complex really, the new Intel chips push alot of data now so processing speed isn't much. That being said any laptops with the above chips and above the speed 2.3ghz and you will be fine.

I could have sworn that in one of the other threads, they were talking about L2/L3 cache affecting performance more than anything else, especially considering that DF can't access more than 2GB of RAM anyway.

Considering everything I list has L3 cache so it wouldn't matter.

Yeah, but wouldn't 8MB L3 cache vastly outperform 3MB L3 cache? It seems like a pretty big difference.

*shrug* I don't know. I don't know exactly what I'd need it for. I already get something like 50k FPS.

No. I'm running a PhenomIIx6 3MB L3 cache, 8GB of Ram, and a Raedon 5770. Mostly, I play on small maps with minimal moving parts.

Wat.

My i7-860 has 8 MB of L3 cache.
If equivalence is still in "coughing up" range, I'll eat my shoe.  It was a midrange processor three years ago.

@MaximumZero: A number like that is bullshit if you turn everything off.  I'd probably get 400k FPS if I did that...

e,fb: Prices for the 860 have actually increased rather significantly in that timespan.  Wat X2.

@Jay on a 6x6 embark with all the caverns open and a river on the surface, I run 200-500 fps. I just like small embarks.
