The Western Marches NPC interaction / noncombat chat thread
« on: February 11, 2012, 11:18:33 pm »

Actual game thread: here.
Skyrunner had a good idea so I'm stealing it.

This thread is for talking to the NPCs, merchanting, or even chatting with the other players without taking up everyone's session time.
The rules are:
1) PLEASE OH GOD preface your post with your character's name somehow.
2) Rule 0 is still in effect.

Currently available: The merchants who are chilling out by the lake. They're much less amenable to haggling now that Zanian has haggled their ears off (even though they're going to make like 9k profit off that sword).

I bought a pair of boots of elvenkind of those dudes, straight up for the price they offered. Couldn't be bothered haggling. Does anyone really need that suit of +1 chainmail, cause otherwise I'm selling that shit and getting either a belt or some gloves.

Ooooor, maybe THIS: http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/threatfromthedeep/items/ring-of-the-darkhidden

Yeah, that would be badass. Do the merchants have one?

((Questions about the area we're currently in:
a) We're at the oasis the dragon-spirit-things sent us to, right?
b) Do the merchants have a bunch of stuff for sale? Like, magic items, adventuring gear, tchochkes, etc...
c) What's Rule 0?))

a) Yep, but we are leaving after dealing with the merchants there.
b) Oh yeah, definately. I got all sorts of cool stuff from them.
c) DM is always right, no matter what. OBEY.

((It isn't so much a matter of the D.M.'s version of events always being correct, as that they have complete authority over what is correct. There is little reason not to mention something that seems off, or to suggest an alternate interpretation of the rules, or even to engage in a lengthy debate(although that would tend to slow a game in progress). But if the D.M. says that something is settled, then it is settled...))

((How am I supposed to initiate a transaction with the merchants at the oasis? I need to buy a bunch of scrolls, assuming they have them.))

((Well, I think that we left the merchants, and retconning would probably be more appropriate in the other thread...))

The merchant have lots of Wondrous Items available (at discount price, even), plus rings. In terms of weapons and armor, they've got a +1 <item> of most standard types.

If you want to ask if they have other stuff (like scrolls), then just go ahead and ask in character.

Rule 0 means "what the GM says, goes". There is some point to arguing if I make a silly ruling or something, but if I say a conversation is dead then it is dead.
