Looks to me like each group includes all the possible values for the key that is hit, and the game just checks until it finds one that works.  As long as you know what the text value will be for your task it looks like it would be easy to type these out then test them in game to see how well they work. ;)

Anybody know if it will "find" new macros that are created out of game while DF is running?

Easiest way to speed up macro execution is to go to init.txt and change the third one from the bottom to [MACRO_MS:1]
