DF Suggestions / Named Adventuring Groups
« on: February 09, 2011, 02:08:57 am »
Pretty simple and probably been covered, but your adventurer and his allies should be given or assume a group name after awhile. I mean, we did just kill every dragon in existence. That's almost as good as throwing a ring into a volcano.

Won't really matter til allies are interesting, obviously, but The Bloody Furnaces need to get their credit.

I wonder if anyone ran to steal his socks after he got hit and then ran away in fear?

DF Bug Reports / [NOT A BUG IGNORE ME] Spontaneous Designation Delete
« on: August 03, 2008, 03:39:54 pm »
Don't know if this is new or not, but...

I haven't looked around my entire base, but at least two of my farm plots and one of my stockpiles disappeared. I have no idea what caused it. The only things that happened around that time were a goblin ambush attacking a Human (killed one and the rest fled) and I begun channeling the surface area of the map away, two or three z-levels above where the deleted designations were.

I'll experiment with the channeling later.

Any other Megaten fans?

Persona 3 FES is $30 and Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne just reprinted recently so you can get it for $50 instead of $200 now! I need a new copy : /

I've heard that a slightly tweaked SMT Nocturne is going to be included with Devil Summoner 2 when it comes out, but I don't know if that's true.

DF Suggestions / Priority Decorate Designation
« on: July 23, 2008, 03:16:29 pm »
It's been said before but I think this is an idea that needs to be kept alive. Keep the decoration system the way it is, just allow players to designate items to be decorated before anything else. I want the exceptional steel battle axe to have menacing spikes, not the donkey socks :(

DF Modding / Bare minimum requirements?
« on: July 20, 2008, 02:46:48 pm »
I'm certain this has all been covered before, but I'm just going to use up some noob points on a semi-lengthy post here. What are the absolute base requirements for an ENTITY or CREATURE to function?

1) What does an ENTITY need to generate in the world?
2) What does an ENTITY need to function as an Adventurer?
3) What does an ENTITY need to function as a playable Fortress?
4) What does a CREATURE need to function?
5) What does a CREATURE need to function as an ENTITY race?

I got the world to generate using:
Code: [Select]
[ENTITY:DWARF]
[CIV_CONTROLLABLE]
[CREATURE:DWARF]
[START_BIOME:MOUNTAIN]
[BIOME_SUPPORT:MOUNTAIN:3]

[CIV_CONTROLLABLE] isn't even necessary, but I was generating with one ENTITY. So that's question one answered, I guess.

The problem with this was that when I added [ADVENTURE_TIER:1] and [INDIV_CONTROLLABLE], I couldn't play Adventure. Do races have to be more hardy and organized to play as an Adventurer? I know they don't actually need any weapon skills so that isn't the problem and I think I actually generated a world using these settings and got an Adventure option one time. Basically, the Adventure tags alone are not the only factor.

I haven't begun testing the questions beyond that, so any insights would be valuable. Really, any general modding advice would be helpful as I am trying to do a comprehensive mod and know basically nothing that cannot be attuned or read in the wiki. Thanks!

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / The Grandest Pyramid Ever Failed
« on: June 06, 2008, 02:29:00 am »
I attempted to make a desert kingdom with the intention of building a massive pyramid tomb to hold the body of my late king and the last incarnation of the only true God, Ra. Well apparently Anubis got wind of this and since I didn't bring any cats (due to not wanting to enslave a godly being), His putrid godliness sent forth a wave of zombie camel destruction that killed my King's retainers in, oh, five minutes.

It was brutal and I will never disrespect that pantheon again.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / "_____" Fortress
« on: June 06, 2008, 01:56:00 am »
There are probably threads about this scattered about, but fresh threads never hurt anyone.

My main hobby in DF is to attempt to as closely emulate various societies as I can. I most often have success with Egyptian Fortress, Commie Fortress, and Feudal Fortress. I would like more functional examples!

Feudal Fortress involves emulating any kind of middle or medieval ages kingdom. I have a large castle where the nobles are protected by the bulk of the army and the rest of the population outside of the gates, vulnerable to attack. Middle class structures are nearer the gate, leading to the center of town, then to the markets and finally the farms on the outskirts of the map. When an attack comes, you want to get all your workers inside the gates, but don't transfer any goods or let the guards go out into the town to help them! This leads to fun as you constantly have to rebuild things and your peasants die and grow angry.

The best part is creating neat little Olde Europe stuff like inns and cottages. I made my prison in the center of the town square, to emulate someone being placed in the stocks, and occasionally I drown "elves" to see if they are actually witches. I'm currently working on building a cathedral that I can bury nobles under, with a graveyard in the back taking up way too much space, complete with family mausoleums! I need to make a dumping pit and make people dump 10% of their income into it. :-D And obviously having a huge inn, stables, and living outside.

There's a million other ideas within that, but I imagine it's all been done before. I just want to know what else you creative guys have come up with!

DF Gameplay Questions / Do captured humanoids breed?
« on: May 28, 2008, 04:58:00 am »
If I kept (relatively) intelligent creatures such as elves or goblins in a pit and provided them with food and shelter and a large span of time, would they breed?

I've honestly not even had enough experience with captured humanoids to understand if this is even a stupid question. I mostly just want to know if I can farm humans for my (Dwarf) Army of Darkness.

DF Suggestions / Waiters / Delivery
« on: June 06, 2008, 02:21:00 am »
I desire the ability to have a Retrieval labor that when activated has the dwarf seek out an object that another dwarf needs or will need. This would allow someone in a workshop to work more constantly as resources or drinks are delivered to them.

(My main desire to have this is so that I can have a bartender set up food on tables for people, but I do think there could be some possible minor benefits to such a skill. I would also enjoy the idea of having to have a percentage of your dwarves run shops and whatnot once your Fortress got large enough, but that's another thread. >_> )

Thoughts?
