DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Kobolds dying out in world gen

Hey guys,

Not sure if this is a bug or if i'm just unlucky my last proper world I played I was poking around the Legends screen after noticed I'm not getting any Kobolds attacks/thieves and noticed that every single Kobold Cave's entire population starves to death in the year 4... I'm playing vanilla and newest version, is anyone else having this issue? I generated a new game and again all 9 of my cave inhabited by Kobolds again died out in the year 4....weird :-/

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Coolest Animals brought by Elves for Trade

Hey all,

Was have just started a new game resently and my elven neighbours have actually brought animals to trade for the first time for me!

They brought quite a few in all, an Elk, a Racoon, hidden away in seemingly empty cages a tame squirrel and hedgehog and to top it all off TWO tame Grizzly Bears! I was over joyed seeing the two bears show up at the trading depot.

'Course I was a fair bit less over joyed when I got them out of the cages and found the buggers hadn't brought me a breeding pair but a pair of females instead, neither of which appears to be pregnant!  :'( Still....

Anyway wanted to find out what over people had had brought in by the tree huggers? Despite the fact that 19 times out of 20 they insist on crushing my dreams by bringing reams of cloth instead of anything remotely useful, this kinda thing makes up for it and boosts them back to being my favorite civ merchants! Till next years anyway when they give up and bring me all rope again :-(

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Undead Ruins

Hey all,

Have tried searching for this but brought up a new old topics not really relevant.

Basically I wanted to know if the Ruins have been taken out all together as I used to bump into them quite often but haven't for a long while.

Think I recall reading if a thread that they weren't in any more but...anyone know if their out perminently? Or whether they are planned to be put back at some point?

I miss them!  :'(

Also anyone know why they were taken out in the first place?

DF Gameplay Questions / Some noob Questions

Hi all,

Been playing DF for a little while now and just had a few questions I was hopeing someone may be able to help out with.

Firstly when you catch a enemy in cage trap (thinking goblins here), I've read on the DF wiki that you can disarm them before releasing them though I can't figure out how to do ANYthing with them other then set build the cage somewhere.
Is this actually do-able or a error?
Also is the only way to release anything in a cage to build it them link it to lever/pp and trigger it as I can't figure out any other way.
While on the subject of cages when I've got a captured dwarf in a cage through merchants being captured they don't show up under the build cage list (Ie Goblins in cages show up as "Goblin Cage" as do elves and humans but dwarfs don't, I usually have to figure out what type of cage their in then build every cage of the same type next to each other in order to get the dwarf cage out! If that a bug or a feature to stop people release dwarfs from jail?

2nd! Any of my dwarves in jail are dying of hunger, I've seen in a threat about jails you can design them so foods in reach but is this the only way? Do dwarves not try to feed prisoners with the give food/water command of is that for resting dwaves only?

Eh..Question the 3rd! Want to build a spike/spear trap but am slightly put off my trhe sheer amount of work it looks to need, to build a 3 x 3 area of spear traps linked to a pressure point i would need to build 9 seperate spears traps with multiply spears per square, then like all 9 squares indevidually to a lever or plate using 18 mechs and taking years or is their anyway of specifing the trap covers a larger area similar to how farm plots or rooms are made? Im guessing it's just tough and I need to do it the long way but just wanted to check first :-)
