Thronedwells - Histories of Cupidity and Tenacity
« on: September 09, 2009, 06:57:23 pm »

It was to be a simple objective. The seven Dwarves were to be very Dwarfish and start a new Mountainhome because there simple wasn't enough space in the other Mountainhomes of the powerful 'Uncommon Bodices'. The Queen Tholtir saw them off happily, dreaming of when she could suddenly disguise herself as a peasant and steal all the adamantine that Kalurkokeb, 'Thronedwells' would naturally be sure to tap. The Dwarves had been handpicked - 4 miners, a woodworker, a craftdwarf and a farmer. Together they would be able to start the fortress and hold out until migrants arrived.

So off they went, leaving their Mountainhome behind and going into uncharted land. After several weeks of gruelling travel over steep hills, rocky paths and flat brooks they arrived in a large forested valley, cut through by a river. It was at that point that they stooped. More from the sudden broken wagon wheel than any other idea. When it was decided that the wheel couldn't be fixed without a carpenter's workshop, they all shrugged and decided to settle here.

Firstly they held a meeting to determine a leader, the miner Udib Hallstrokes was quickly chosen due to her natural skill at knowing the value of random objects just by looking at them, and because she was the only one out of them who could professionally flatter someone, which seemed important somehow. This done, they decided to delegate tasks. As the 7 founders of Thronedwells they decided each of them would hold the word 'Great' in their profession title. It was all agreed, and they set along digging out the first chambers of Thronedwells.

Firstly a great chamber was dug out to serve as an entrance hall, from there, a wide corridor would lead to a stairway. Branching off would be two more corridors which would lead to craftshops and to the farms. The moment it was decided, the miners struck the earth, quickly digging the chamber out. Outside, the woodcutter began to fell trees for beds and the planter and craftdwarf relaxed with some Dwarven beer. When the chambers had been cut out, the planter rushed off, beginning to plant plump helmet spawn so that the beer would not stop flowing. In the larger chamber, the miners began to carve out a huge stairway, because carving out huge stairways people could easily throw themselves down if they couldn't find something like silk or cloth seemed a very Dwarvish thing to do at the time. Soon after, workshops were set up and the brave horse and muskox that had led them here were quickly slaughtered into meat. Three more small chambers were built to serve as food, drink and wood stockpiles and doors were hastily manufactured to try and block out the miasma in the butcher's workshop, vermin or future berserk Dwarves. Three levels down the stairway a collection of chambers were built for the Dwarves to sleep in, with beds being made by the woodcutter. Further down the hall a dining room was carved out, soon to be filled with tables and chairs.

By Mid-Summer it seemed that all was well in Thronedwells, but with seven Dwarves things rarely go wrong...

Well there's the intro. This isn't a succession game, just a chronicle of Thronedwells and anything that happens to it. I'll need some names for the six other Dwarves, and maybe for any migrants that arrive later, so if you want a Dwarf just tell me what name, profession and anything else ;).
