But the sad truth charlie?
It was inevitable.

ah, ok. Lightning rounds it is!

Yeah.  Thus why I didn't make a trap.  In it's current state the fortress didn't need a trap, the whole damn fortress is a trap.

Sorry, I can't do this by midnight, the save isn't working. I'm not sure whether it's something wrong with the save or if I need to do more than extract the file to the saves folder, but either way I don't have the time.

sorry.

Every time I try to open the save it crashes the game out,  not sure why.

That's odd, I have downloaded it to see where the base was at and it worked fine for me...

Oh well, I guess we are on hold until technical problems are solved.

ok just to make sure we have all our bases covered, let's make sure that everyone knows that when unzipping files, it puts the contents within another file that has the same name.

so you'll have something like this:

DF> data> save> cloudyhelms > CLOUDYHELMS

if you try to play using the outer file, DF will crash. you need to manually move the inner file to the save directory so you get it like this:

DF > data > save > CLOUDYHELMS

* note that the names of the files will be IDENTICAL. any differences in my post are for easier comprehension.

EDIT:

I'll let Babylon go first because we both had the same problems.

it looks like Babylon won't be taking his turn.

+!!scientist!!+ , please take your turn, lest this slip into the realm of forgotten forts.

Otherwise I'll still be around to take it over if needed.

I got fed up with my fortress, so I decided to kill everyone (abandon is for elves) with a cave-in.

OK, cave-ins were always pretty deadly, but with the new falling object damage they are downright brutal.  As far as I can make out from the logs, many people were killed by the flying bodies of other victims.  One baby's corpse ricocheted off three other people, two walls and the floor.
