Thanks! This looks nice. Some calm before the storm. Could be i can't start sooner than in a couple days but i'll let you know when i do

Edits:

Legends time. Ah okay right the Neblime situation is my bad, i forgot to add a "2" to the second one? I think i did that? 'Neblime' Singedlens, male dwarf, was killed by the hydra in 152.
'Neblime' Sabreblazed is from a different civ and settled in Gateheaven in 153. And now there's 'Neblime II' Pickhope, a fresh Earthenjungle dwarf.

There's two 'Salmeuks' (dead dwarf + dwarven child) plus 'Salmeuk the Enduring' (dead) and 'Salmeuk II'. Oohh the confusion

Dwarves, Welcome to the Jungles of Romance
I will not lie to you, your chances of survival are slim.
If you are not killed by the humans, cannibalized by the elves, you may find your souls eternally enslaved by the dark power of necromancers
But I swear to you, by holy magma, to do everything in my power to deliver your bodies to eternal rest in this cause we fight!

Our enemies outnumber us in the many thousands and thus we have hidden in this unholy elven jungle to prevent them from fielding large armies against us
This special assignment is for commandos and so we shall also not be able to field a large army, but we will cut and burn this forest down to shape it into a death trap that will live on as legend!

Inspiration: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wrRpdJqMC80&ab_channel=Tarriff

Great premise! jungle warfare is a good explanation for smaller army and population sizes. Also guerrilla fortress is nice variety, i'm starting to get pretty immersed into this world :D

(Heh, i hadn't seen that meme before. TW:Warhammer3 such a great game)

Do trees cause bad lag? And how to stop them from growing. Would a stockpile covering the surface work? Or could we cover the land with farm plots

Nice, river on embark. Let the waterfalls flow

It's not just "the latest version", it's the beta branch, for both of them. So options->betas and pick "public beta" and "adventure beta" for both apps

This worked!

Nice!

Omg that story had me smiling a lot, due to seeing all the familiar dwarves at the human town, and with the portraits too. Sad that the adventure ended so quickly

And yeah Maloy's story was super intense, puts the previous necromancer (Dishmab Moziblogem) to shame. Any idea what the necros names were?

Dwarven snatchers and human kings?

Damn, that IS dark... And yeah, good post! Pretty interesting though, that 'Astralathius' Crimsonreward guy lives up to humans having "great ambition"...

I just noticed one thing: he's a member of the enemy civilization, the Union of Frenzy.
He seems like a chill guy so I'm conflicted.

Should we start the new fort? I'm not good at military stuff like sending raids so probably not much for me to achieve here. And spawning new civ members would be good in continuing the civ's actual bloodline. If so, then could you do the embarking Maloy?

Question for next fort:
Do we wanna stay in this part of the world to try and finish our war with these civilizations? Or run to a new doomed part of this planet?

I say continue the war, but retreat and regrouping could work too. Maybe make mini forts to pump out newly spawned dwarves? I dont know

I have some ideas for the next fort. Possible trap corridor should be in a channeled moat, open to the sky. (OR, an elevated bridge??) So should the adjoining corpse stockpile and the accompanying atom smasher, built as soon as the stockpile itself, with a minecart link. I don't want all that miasma and corpses. Hmm, apparently cave adaptation is a thing again?

6
When we finish up our goals at this fort do we wanna play around in adventure mode on this world for a bit before the next fort?

I will not be playing an adventure, but feel free to do so by me. I don't think it would corrupt the save, and I think DFHack also supports the beta by now? There's the risk if the beta is unstable i suppose, crashes and stuff, that could be a pain

7
And on the subject of artifact names, you can't beat this beauty from the Museum III game.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Funnily enough that you mentioned the Museum, i've been reading through the Museum thread for the last while, i'm something like halfway through the first game's thread. There's some wild shit going on, what a story

I slay the giants in turn by jamming Bora Ragedance's corpse into their skulls - a fitting tribute for a great warrior. I continue my travels east and then north, skirting the ocean.

Final thoughts on my turn:

1.   There’s food to last a full year, but more is always needed. There's tons of drink ingredients, but no solid foods

I told you we need more food! Well, i recommend butchering some animals and allowing all beer types for cooking. Could we make flour for cooking or raid to steal more livestock? There's a room at the waterfall intake where you could make waterwheels and millstones for flour

9
Thats great finish off the goblins to stop goblin sieges

I didn't know that about forgotten beasts! Since buildingdestroyer is broken we could start storing FBs in locked corridors to collect as many as we can. Use Gateheaven as a death trap to really damage the enemy pop numbers

I guess we could turn the elves and humans into garbage collectors, restrict burial and maybe hauling too to only them

I voted for new fort but I'm good either way so don't mind me

10
there are bodies upon bodies upon skeletons upon skeletons. and then some zombies lurking above those. there is also a siege??
tbh .. for these kinda forts u really gotta have a small or medium world with shorter history, and a 2x2 embark helps too ... regardless, save is here: https://dffd.bay12games.com/file.php?id=17051

Zombies? Oh right, the passive rotten zombies chilling at the front gate? i wanted the colossus as a scary totem but i suppose goblin zombies will do :D

We do need more cleanup. I think there's an atom smasher in the front gate? Maybe we should make a third atom smasher in the pillar room to clear it quick too. Problem is carrying corpses hits the moods...

Is there any DFHack tricks to clean the map, like removing bloodstains and stuff?

I feel good that I insisted for a smaller world, but interesting that even this world seemed too big? I confess i like medium worlds myself. I dunno, cleaning clutter + doing a 2x2 embark would probably help a lot

Isn't Salmeuk going to play? I hope so because i'm probably not ready to take another turn yet, playing takes a lot of time

I took over in the early summer of year 117. We have a massive zombie infestation in the cave. Over 500 are constantly duking it out and wiping the FPS clean. So, an unconventional method was used to clean up, along with the junk inside. The lava pump intake is looking quite concerning. The lava only trickled in and is likely to affect the FPS as well. Unfortunately, there's an FB inside that can fly so I haven't dealt with it.

There's only one goblin raid this year, quite big, but they're all scared away by some zombies. The tower near us probably running out of unit to dispatch, so, I started looking for a new one. I lost 3 dwarfs in the process of pulling aggro. Expect raids from 3 new towers and 1 tomb next year.

An accident happened in the first cavern when I cut multiple fungi wood for some pot. The wall leaked so one unfortunate human went out to pick up the web and got done in by the antmens.

There are a lot of guild petitions, I have redecorated some to meet the requirements. We now have a birdcage to prevent more agitated animals from spawning for the time being.

Also, fixed some clay QSP loop and clean up all the unnecessary tasks so that everything run more smoothly. Look like one of the lava outlet on the 2 cavern haven't been closed yet.

We have 500 undeads in the cave. Guess I will turn on the starvingdead.
We also have 2000 shields in the caves.

Otto_K — 12.03.2024
Holy shit that's a lot of undead 😨   And 2000 shields?? Thats a lot of shield-using cave people

Otto_K — 12.03.2024
she's ready to leave

GeeFin — 12.03.2024
I've never seen a visiting ghost before

Albreo — 12.03.2024
Neither. I thought she was our citizen.

Wow, exciting read! So many cool twists and turns. The war of conquest begins...

I hadn't even thought of the possibility to steal livestock. Perfect for this desert fort! Good idea to fill up the corridor with traps. Only reason I didn't build more traps, is that I wanted more interesting battles and a better story to write. To cripple the invasion but not annihilate it. A bit selfish of me

I went to Legends to check, looks like Muthkat Searchwall was a denizen of Luteglen: the chamberlain and also a slave of the Union of Frenzy. Those primitives keep slaves? Also, 'Conceited' Apexroad slashed off his nose in the fight. Still, 'Maloy' Fernboulder and his whole squad getting imprisoned is wild stuff

What on earth happened to 'Salmeuk' the child? OH, I found him. He's living in Strappedsun with his mum, 'Pawn'. Thank goodness.

14
Kesp and Salmeuk aren't findable. They're also not on our list of dead/missing either!

I went back to check my save again. 'Salmeuk' is still alive and well, no danger. But 'Kesperan'?

I went to the slab maker's shop to lookup his name. ENTOMBED? DAMN IT.

I found the tomb using the Zones menu. There's his little skeleton, covered in blood. Okay, make that slab, and make it fast. Zombie one-humped camel?

Next stop, Legends. This camel was reanimated in late summer, 156. These 'unknown forces' are definitely our deceased warrior of undeath, Dishmab Moziblogem. Screw this guy, I almost thought he could be our ally, before his own zombie killed him. But he killed our future. May his name be cursed in Inoddasel.

I have failed. Send 'OttoK' away as a Slayer to hunt our enemies until he doesn't come back, and his debt will be paid.

I fell a bit late on posting these after the forums crash, so we're at year 120 currently. That said, let's roll the post! - OttoK

I was only able to get through a quarter of the year unfortunately due to being really busy and the game only running at 10 FPS

In that time, I made a magma reservoir and dumped magma into an area in the first cavern layer to clean up some trash, and I dumped some magma onto a particular populous area in the second cavern layer to clean up some baddies

I also killed a bunch of surface creatures and melted the corpses and other junk around the entrance, as I showed earlier. There weren't really any baddies in I melted in the first picture; mainly just debris. As for the second picture, there were a ton of baddies, which as you can see have been mostly taken care of

11 fps. Ngl things are getting a little painful
Also Jesus Christ there are a ton of agitated animals. It's like the whole region is sending all the animals at us

Salvadaddy — 23.02.2024
Ok so magma is a lot faster than I expected. So F for the dwarf we just lost to that
Ok it’s time for the moment of truth
I’m going to activate my nefarious device (TM)
It’s going to dump magma into the caverns to clean things up a bit

…

Otto_K — 21.02.2024
Okay, it's time. Tlikilrursner lore. What... HE WAS A SPY ALL ALONG
Still adorable, though

Salvadaddy — 21.02.2024
I know we don’t have an alliance, but I still feel betrayed

Albreo — 21.02.2024
Then go kill his master
Free him!!

Image 3: Tlikilrursner legends page

Otto_K — 07.03.2024
Hmm, how might we do that?
So, what we know: The Forlorn Butcher was a kobold thief who lived in a cave called Sistersdeeps. He was killed by the marsh titan that attacked his home. 31 years later resurrected by Osp Gleefuleven the necromancer, who is the warlord of bandit group called the Influential Destinies, operating from a bandit camp called Bronzetowns
If there's other members of Influential Destinies, they're nonhistoricals. But i like to imagine a warband consisting of a necromancer and a single undead kobold, sitting around a campfire

Albreo — 08.03.2024
He's that necromancer subordinate and was ordered to come to our town as a spy. If we can kill that necromancer he should be free but still, intelligent undead won't join a civ under normal circumstances. DFhack can fix that.

Otto_K — 09.03.2024
Yea, could be fun to hack him joinable. And then is there any way to do a hit on some guy on the world map 🤔

Albreo — 10.03.2024
You can look upon the legend to see where he is and send the squad out. The rest depends on luck but it is doable. That's how I got the socks back in the previous fort.
