Oh, the forum is back.

Hi from Denver, everyone! I got out weeks ahead of schedule since I couldn't bear to watch my ex replace me in real time and use what would have been a personal birthday gift for me (but let's be real, it was always for her, not for me) as a birthday gift for her new guy. ( How cheap was our relationship to her? ) Sucks for her pet sitting gig, but I put my mental health above her gig. I wasn't going to get anything out of it anyways- no more favors, no more gratis.

I got to spend a week in Moab with one of my best friends, and now I'm staying with his girlfriend I'm Denver, another best friend, while I seek out my own place to live.

And I did! I'm signing on to a private, furnished basement in a house for a really good rent rate that goes month-to-month at the end of autumn. I move in after next weekend. Oh, and the homeowner has a really sweet terrier that I'm going to get along great with.

Everything is just sort of working out. It's really very lucky. I'll miss my dogs, but not being shackled and abused. There's a lot of city to explore and plenty of space to recover and reinvent myself.

Just had an email saying that the 4000 word report is, in fact, 4000 words at an absolute maximum. So long as we meet the rubric, we're good for using far fewer.

Wish they'd said that earlier considering the rule for literally every other assignment has been the limit, +/-10%

Aahhh. That's actually reasonable, heh. Much less troublesome, too, ha.

I remember when 4000 words seemed like a lot.

*cries in 15000 word chapters*

Do you have a time limit for your doctorate or does it just take as long as it takes?

Just confirmed other pasta microwaves like macaroni does, more or less. Had suspected it did since mac and cheese cooks up fine that way, but had never actually tried it. Now I have, and it does! Pasta without having to get the cooking pot out, whoo!

I'll need to be done by August. There's some part- or- full time shenanigans, but for full time 4 years is the standard.

New job is coming, New apartment as well. Breakup is coming as well, but I'm focusing on the upsides and trying to make it as painless as possible. Happy to be on that grind! I feel like i've been making a lot of forward movement lately. Mentally I feel less self critical than I ever have, and Physically I feel like I'm the most fit i've been in a long time. Once I have weed money I think i'm going to be ok :)

Oooooooo, Bay12 lore.

We should open a thread to catalogue the past events this place has been through. I am sure it would be interesting.

This forum probably has the most interesting microculture I've ever seen on the internet, so I think i'd like to see that as well!

Glad you've found a bright spot in a bad situation friend :)

You cause my chef heart to break when you say these things!!!!!  :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

JK, finding a way to cook at home that works for you is more important than doing things the ""right"" way, I hope you enjoy your pasta homeslice :)

Hector gave me this thread link before. It is a timeline that reaches from 2001 to 2016.

It's a'ight! Better cooked proper but nuked pasta eats just fine. There's definitely a difference, but it's not a huge one. Little less tender, but still tender, basically, or at least a somewhat different sort of texture than standard boiling. Delicious pasta is still delicious, yeh.

Part of that is dialing in exact cooking time and water/liquid amounts, though. I know a box of mac and cheese by heart*, but the box of wheat penne I've been going through isn't quite that. Needs a bit more water and more time (or less penne, it's also been more difficult to figure out how much to use, and I've been consistently overshooting some so far), and I haven't quite nailed down exactly how much more. Once I get that I'll be golden, heh.

* 2 cups water/broth, 3 minutes, stir, 3 minutes, stir,  3 minutes, finish prep; it's honestly my preferred preparation method for M&C these days, though I don't know how much of that is acquired taste and how much is less acclimated preference. Works on 1k and 1.1k watt microwaves about as well.

It's spring. The frogs are croaking, the flowers are blooming, the geese are in the ponds all night.

There are fish in the pond too. Some slender serpentine little guys. I couldn't get a photo of them.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I uploaded a "video" of the croaking too, can't get the damn link for it alone; https://imgur.com/gallery/zhASnN8
