General Discussion / A poll for a school project
« on: November 28, 2009, 02:17:14 pm »
For a school project I have to design a better toilet paper holder. As a part of this, I wish to find out which material the majority of toilet paper holders are made of.

If you have multiple toilet paper holders that are made of different materials, please choose the Other option and specify.

EDIT: Might as well throw this here as well. Is your toilet paper holder attached to the wall, or is it part of a stand?

DF General Discussion / Mining for fish

Am I alone in that I was surprised to learn that you can designate river tiles for channeling?

As many of you may know, the tops of some streams, brooks, and rivers count as solid surfaces, allowing caravans, dwarves, and fortress to be built on the surface of rivers. What I didn't realize is that this surface can be breached with picks, turning the river water into the barrier that the average pond presents.

This little discovery hardly possesses much value, but I feel that I might potentially have never known about it for the rest of my days. So I decided to bring it to the attention of others.

DF Gameplay Questions / Urist McUristUrist has collapsed
« on: June 24, 2008, 05:03:23 am »
I was experimenting in the design of superstructures when suddenly one of the modded in race of mine died. This race has [NO_GENDER], [NO_DRINK], [NO_EAT], [NO_SLEEP], [NOBREATHE], [NOBLEED], [NOTOUGHT], [NOEXERT], [NOSTUCKINS], [NOFEAR], [NONAUSEA], [NOPAIN], [NOSTUN], [PARALYZEIMMUNE], [NOTHOUGHT], [trAPAVOID], and [NOSMELLYROT]. That rules out exertion, asphyxiation, thirst, and hunger. The message displayed was, "Pani Ilukara, Engraver has collapsed."

I'd just started and I'd built a long corridor. The fellow was entirely surrounded by his fellows, and each and every one of them were smoothing the floor (for the heck of it, I guess).

The oddest bit about it is that although usually I can select dead creatures with Dwarf Companion, I can't do that with this fellow, so I can't see what kind of damage was inflicted to kill him.

What happened? Can dwarves be legitimately killed by trampling? Or was it something else?
