ok, 16665 rejected sites (ominous number) and I came up with an area that remotely looks like it. But not even close as far as the utopia angle goes.

Again, I will request that an FAQ on transferring code OR as stated in an earlier idea a ZIP fie with all the goodies in it be delivered to my e-mail.

if you do not know my e-mail, message me and maybe I'll give it to you.

The only question that remians is how I pronounced message.............

DUN-DUN-DUN!!!

I've tried the seed and I am having a HORRIFIC time trying to make it work (at the time of writing I've had 11000 rejected sites and a couple of warnings)

is it supposed to run like this or am I doing something horribly wrong, and if I am, could someone please direct me to a FAQ in regards to seed-typing-in-related-stuff-er....-yeah.

Now it's back to watching the complete season of firefly while DF does it's work.

I recommend finding an older former military dwarf, a female dwarf, a dwarf that looks like he's been in trouble with the law a few times, and a black dwarf, give them crossbows, and let them do their work.

An example of how this works: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qSrWA6bbUjU

I actually have a similar problem in my newest fort:

I was using natural lakes with a channel connected to the river to get my moat for mynewest creation, but my woodcutter went and got himself drowned at the one lake that has a direct connection to the moat (it nvolved taking the floor out from under him, literally).

So by only using 4 wood with at most 20 if I tear down my pallisade, and no stone thanks to an aquifier, how would I fix this issue (AKA get my only axe back).

Where's Urist MacGuyver when you need him?

Well, I recommend watching the movies metropolis (both the black and white 1920's one and the early 2000's anime one) and construct a city off of that design.

And just to make it dwarven: put a roof over it.

This happened to me as well.

The insane dwarf did not care about the baby, and used it as a meatshield to absorb about 50 bolts.

Sad.

That creates a  mental image almost as bad as the pillaging scene in Rambo 4 (Bayonet-baby-fire-tossing, look for it)

Alrigty, so until I get the bulk of my outer perimeter built (fortress wall around the lava moat with 2nd story arrow slits, and enough tree storage to be able to not have to cut for a few years), I guess I just gotta forbid. But can anyone confirm that the multiple Z-axis bug was fixed (I remember it being a problem). I wanna set up a crossbow security force to patrol the wall and I wanna make sure they'll be able to shoot from their moderately secure position.

o,i toggles Dwarves Go Outside, Only Soldiers Go Outside, All Dwarves Stay Inside (paraphrased)

That looks like it'll work for the bulk of my day to day operations, but do commands like chop down tree, build wall/floor/fortification, and other such things override the command?

Arrow slits are called fortifications, and they might be a good idea, since goblins eventually do bring crossbows. Even better if you have them a z-level up so that it will be harder for goblins to aim.

As for flying creatures, goblins don't bring any, if that's what you're asking. Some maps have flying wildlife though.

I've started working on the wall with fortifications on the second floor of it, though this looks like the project is gonna take a few years to complete, especially with the way I run my military.

I'm just confirming that marksdwarves will shoot down to a lower Z level if given the right equipment and they can pull it off. What I'm looking to do is keep my fortress guard on a melee basis as they typically hang out around the only entrancway to the actual fort, and then have roving patrols of marksmen on the walls comprised of standard soldiers.

Anyone know any threads, FAQs, or links in general that'll help on how to make this work?

In addition, my civilians have the nasty little tendency to try to run out and pick up the loot from the bodies that have fallen to the enemy attacks. So three times now I've had up to 3 guys actually outside the fort (woodcutters until a recent hunter showed up), and once one of them discovers the raid and gets killed, I have 20 guys rushing out to grab the items, and while it's funny to see them run around in circles around the attackers, if there was a kinda of "everybody run inside" siren I could activate for civilians, that'd be nice to know about.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Magma Drop
« on: November 29, 2008, 06:44:38 pm »
Hi, me again (with the crazy desert lava moat fortress)

Alright, I'm looking to expand my fortress but a part of the area I want to expand is looking to go 1 z level underneath my lava moat. essentially the lava is on z level -1 and I'm looking to dig out level -2. Might this pose a problem for me*? The rocks are already in a warmed up state and on the dig designation it's popping up as magma being nearby.

*Yes, magma flooding my fort IS a problem for me

Oh, and just so you're kept up to date she's started her masterpiece (I guess some of the parts she needed were trapped at the trade depot till a recent stockpile moved them out). But the question still remains
