General Discussion / Was the old forum (archives) deleted?
« on: April 03, 2009, 03:22:43 am »
I ask because I'm trying to navigate back to find a certain thing that would've only existed pre-change but I can't get to them. Any links to the old forum are dead or broken. Can someone confirm or deny this?

Other Games / What was that Real Time roguelike game?
« on: February 15, 2009, 08:38:34 pm »
There was a topic about an in-development roguelike a few months ago, the most defining feature was that it was real-time. I've tried searching for it on the forum/internet with no results.

Does anyone remember? It had a demo out, where you fight in an arena until you die.

Life Advice / My computer is deader than a Goblin amongst Giant Molerats
« on: January 01, 2009, 07:16:51 pm »
My computer froze one night in the middle of a play-through of Morrowind (inspired by the banter of it in the Fallout 3 thread, no less).

No issue, I thought, I will just turn it off then on, and continue from the last autosave. I turn it off, then try to turn it back on. It turns on and doesn't run the fans or anything internal, not even the monitor. I don't think of this as a major problem, so I go behind the computer and unplug everything including the power. I replug them all and try another boot.

This time the computer runs, but wrong, meaning the fans go off and run at 1000% of safe speed, and the computer beeps once every few seconds. I am knowledged in compaq beep codes and decided to look it up, there was nothing on a single beep beep code. I assumed it was something wrong with the processor and was adamant that a new one would fix 'er right up.

Skip three days later, after getting a great bargain on Ebay for the exact same processor as the one I had before, I go through the steps of replacing it. After getting it all nice and snug inside, I try another boot. To my despair, the same thing happens as before.

So here I am, using my 10 year old computer with 100 MB of ram and a prehistoric amount of processing power, and it runs Windows ME, hooray! I have no idea what to do next, I've tried brainstorming to no avail. I may try getting a new computer with the same DDR compatibility so i can just take the RAM and video card out of my old one along with the harddrive.

Or maybe not, if someone can tell me what the hell happened to my computer, I was thinking it was the power supply or something like that.

Other Games / Tropico 3, optimism is welcome.

I'm not going to lie, I don't see this game as being a major success, but the proposed developer has a history of making rather good city builder/rts games, so I'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt.

Either way I'm stoked.

Other Games / Counting the days to a new Epic Mech game..
« on: October 03, 2008, 08:21:21 am »
By epic mech, I mean a game in which it includes both Normal Military and then Big-Assfuck-Gigantos. With hydraulic pistons big enough to swallow an apartment complex. Much like Titans of W40k, but not of the scouting variety.

Actual point of this is, are there any games even close to this type of idea out there/being made?

I've decided to start making a whole new tileset from scratch with some old tiles recycled/redesigned from my older tileset. After working all through the midnight, I've got this:

Other Games / Recommend me a game.
« on: August 11, 2008, 09:44:26 am »
Well, I've got the need for entertainment, yet can't seem to get it out of much anything anymore. I've played almost every retail game released since 1995, so, my hopes of finding a true gem out there that I hadn't played is rare. Any suggestions?

DF Suggestions / BIG Happiness boost from killing a friend's killer.
« on: July 29, 2008, 01:03:39 pm »
We all know the big happiness loss from a dwarf losing it's friend, but if the dwarf who lost the friend killed the friend's killer, said dwarf should get a big boost to his happiness with the message 'Took joy in getting revenge for friend's death recently.'. But it would depend on personality type.

DF Suggestions / Multiple Z level designations (At one time)
« on: July 29, 2008, 10:55:50 am »
I don't suppose it'd be too hard to do, other than changing a few lines around, but I'd like the ability to designate multiple Z levels at a time with one designation. The game already tracks where the designation started over multiple Z levels, so it'd be swell if you could make it so that it makes that area (three left and 10 down Z's) all be designated.

Other Games / The Battle For Wesnoth.

It could easily be described in seven(nine) words: Epic, turn based RPG. It's also Open-Source.

But then again, most people who are avid freeware searchers already know of it. I just wanted to make a topic so the discussion could be in one spot.

DF Community Games & Stories / Lorbam Wailwinds, Speardwarf.
« on: June 23, 2008, 08:34:27 pm »
When I was a child, the world seemed to be falling apart. Elves, angered at the destruction of the forests, launched a desperate war on the Humans, who in turn pleaded to the Dwarves for assistance. The King, in his foresight, stayed neutral for the majority of the war, knowing that no matter who won, the Dwarves would be in a position of power. Seventy years of war raged across the plains and forests, destroying the Humans and Elves alike, until one day, in the siege of a Major Human city, a great rift opened in the Elve's lines, swallowing thousands in a dull red chasm, and releasing the Demons onto the world.

The Dwarves of all people knew what a full Demon assault could do to the world, the King ordered a Militarization of every able-bodied dwarf immediately when he heard the news. My father, a weaponsmith, was one of the first drafted into the war-effort. I watched him work day-in day-out on a spear, but this spear was no steel, it was Adamantine, special ordered by the King. Once my father finished the spear, he was forced into the legions. I never saw him again.

The year was 984 when the Dwarves finally managed to fight the demons back to their abyss. The king himself sealed the opening, sacrificing himself to remove the magics that held the rift open. His spear is still used as a sign of the dwarven sacrifice to save the world from demons, again.

I was Seventy, a youngling by dwarven standards, when I joined my Fortress' Guard. I became proficient with the spear, an honor in my country. I lived a peaceful life, my fort was not large enough to attract attention from the Goblins, and all we had to fend off was a wolf pack every summer or two. Until, on the 3rd of Felsite, year 1050, my journey began.

Ill write the start of the actual adventurer if interest sparks.

1050. A group calling itself the Tundra Clan establish a Fortress in the cold North. Their tome is written by the leader, with a new one chosen each year, for the good of the clan in order to keep a single Dwarf from holding free reign over the people, be it Good and Kind, or Evil and Iron-Fisted.

This is the starting position:

DF Modding / How to make wrestlers spawn with a weapon?
« on: January 07, 2008, 07:17:00 pm »
Such as making a wrestler adventurer spawn with this:

code:
 [ITEM_WEAPON:ITEM_WEAPON_BATTLE_FIST]
[NAME:battle fist:battle fists]
[DAMAGE:150:HEAT]
[WEIGHT:80]
[SKILL:WRESTLING]
[CRIT_BOOST:1]
[TWO_HANDED:1]
[MINIMUM_SIZE:1]
[MATERIAL_SIZE:4]

I cant seem to make them spawn with it. I'm not sure if it's something to do with Wrestlers never starting with weapons otherwise.
