Viking challenge fort
« on: August 17, 2008, 10:50:19 am »

Would people be interested in yet another community fortress? Because I was thinking about making one based on the Viking challenge.

If six people post with dwarf requests, I'll take that for a yes and start the fortress.

You can request the leaderdwarf position, but I'll still be the one making the decisions, although I'll always take my readers' wishes into account.

PS: I am aware that there have been made two similar fortresses, Twilightstorm(died) and Flamebranded(died in the first year, it seems). Both sound like finnish heavy metal bands :P

EDIT:
The list of founding dwarves:
Ferik, no specific profession
Kartain, Carpenter/Building Designer
Damak, Brewer/something
Ivarr, Weaponsmith/Armorsmith
Leef, Grower/Cook
Tarquinius, Woodcutter/Axedwarf

Dwarves to do:
Vilmund, Axedwarf or Metalworker

OK, I've put up a small list of dwarves. You can be as specific or nonspecific as you want about them, although I find DI7789 to be a strange name for a dwarf :P

Hell, I'm in for a year.  Don't care the profession, though if you have a spare guy with at least novice brewer, that will help.

If you find some permutation of my screenname good, then that will work for a name.  Otherwise we can go with "Olaf", which is a fairly viking name.

Hey cool, I tried this challenge myself a few times.  Trying to build above ground  is fun difficulty, and with the new interface it's a hell of a lot faster.

Make me a Weaponsmith/Armorsmith (Runesmith?) known as Ivarr, after the great conqueror Ivarr the Boneless.

Treat that place as a thing unto itself, independent of all else, and confront it on those terms. You alone must find the way. No one else can help you. Every way is different. And if you do lose yourself at least take solace in the absolute certainty that you will perish.

Well, that's six. Sometime later today I'll make the actual fortress, and if someone wants to claim a seventh dwarf then that's fine by me.

*enjoy the sauce*

Seriously though, hope the first year goes well.  Building above ground is always a pain.
