Title: We're playing Princess Maker 2! Part 3: Hogwarts woulda been cheaper.

Its people sank into
debauchery and sloth.

Although, can you blame them with that much moolah?

The Lord became angry at
this and summoned the
Prince of Darkness,
ruler of the Underworld.

But gord said no,
so some random schmuck named Lucifon
was sent out instead.
The mortals overwhelmed the demonic invaders,
and retaliated by flooding their home with magma.
Because of this, the demons were fled into the desert,
where nobody else wanted to live.

But the fighting was not over yet.
Many a warrior wanted to fight Lucifon, and kick him while he was down.
One of them was some swordfighter called Wymar Sane.

(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/Lucifon1_zpsf41236b7.png) Why do you insist on fighting?
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/Lucifon1_zpsf41236b7.png) It has been divinely  ordained that I attack this decadent capital.
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/Lucifon1_zpsf41236b7.png) It is of no concern of yours. I only killed the dwarves, anyway.
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/Me_zps47fcb862.png) You misunderstand. I didn't fight for them.
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/Me_zps47fcb862.png) The bragging rights were all I was after.
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/Lucifon1_zpsf41236b7.png) You do not wish to destroy me?
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/Me_zps47fcb862.png) Eh.

And without a trace, Lucifon disappeared into the desert.

---

(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/King_zpsfb171bac.png) Looks like we've got a winner.
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/Me_zps47fcb862.png) Wait, there was a competition?
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/King_zpsfb171bac.png) Nah, people just wanted to kick the guy's ass before somebody beats them to it.
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/Me_zps47fcb862.png) So I get nothing?
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/King_zpsfb171bac.png) I could hire you as a hero of the realm, if you want.
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/King_zpsfb171bac.png) Basically you save shit and get no respect whatsoever for it.
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/Me_zps47fcb862.png) What's the pay?
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/King_zpsfb171bac.png) 500 gold per month.
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/Me_zps47fcb862.png) That's not a lot.
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/King_zpsfb171bac.png) It's not like you have a family to feed or anything.
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/Me_zps47fcb862.png) Aight. Deal!

(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/Me_zps47fcb862.png) Fine, I get the hint. So what do I do now?

(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/Me_zps47fcb862.png) How am I gonna explain bringing a naked girl to my home?

(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/Me_zps47fcb862.png) Listen.
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/Me_zps47fcb862.png) I hate you.
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/gawdgrin_zps5a1e4b82.png) you're welcome

I finished playing Live-A-Live this morning, so I felt like playing something completely different for a change. Considering how Bay12 has THE BEST DAMN PARENTS EVER, I figured we might try to raise a child. Probably into some sort of genocidal supervillain or something.

Princess Maker 2 is  a game by Gainax Studios (You probably never heard of them before), and revolves about taking care of your adopted daughter of gawd. That includes sending her to classes, make her do part time work, have her kill monsters in the surrounding areas and generally being an incredibly shitty dad.
We can totally do that, right?

First, she needs some things. Other than clothes, that is.

Title: We're playing Princess Maker 2! Part 1: Daughter of Gawd
Post by: Darvi on May 22, 2013, 02:19:27 pm
After some lengthy discussions with my compatriots (most of which was me trying to tell them that I am not a sick pervert, until gawd passed by and defused the situation with a well-aimed brofist to the face), I decided to call the girl Scythe. It's like Sheathe, but without all the dangerous innuendo involved!
The guys also informed me that the day was the 16th November, and at that opportunity I informed one of them in turn that the year does, in fact, end on the 31st December.
The blood type we decided on was B "for bacon, because everyone loves bacon and you want her to be loved, right?"

As for me, my name is Wymar Sane, my birthday is the 22nd May, and I'm 23 years old. It's positively depressing how old I've gotten.

Years into the future... but not many

It's been a year now since I've adopted Scythe. It wasn't easy, but luckily I've had help from my servant from the pastfuture, Cube.
He's awesome. He can fire maser beams, hack computers, perform surgery, shoot goldfishes...
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/cube_zps363ec413.png) Referred-to functions have previously been uninstalled to clear the space necessary for my voice synthesizers. *ping*
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/Me_zps47fcb862.png) Dammit!

Scythe's been doing pretty well, and now that she's finally 10 years old, she has officially entered the competence zone and ready for real life.

(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/Me_zps47fcb862.png) Alright, I guess. Just let me take a look at her stats first.
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/scytheneutral_zps5b697681.png) Stats? What's that?
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/Me_zps47fcb862.png) Don't worry, about that, you'll understand soon enough.

She's relatively tough, intelligent, and quite charismatic. I am actually almost proud of her.
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/scytheneutral_zps5b697681.png) Only almost?
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/Me_zps47fcb862.png) Your time has only begun, kid. Just wait until you start improving. You'll be amazing in no time.

Less important information is stored here. She's a scorpio, so her patrons are Vriska Serket and Hades.
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/scytheneutral_zps5b697681.png) Daddy, who's Hades?
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/Me_zps47fcb862.png) Hades' the god of the dead and the underworld. That might sound nasty, but he's actually a pretty chill guy.

(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/Me_zps47fcb862.png) Hey Cube.
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/Me_zps47fcb862.png) Why are her... measurements here?
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/cube_zps363ec413.png) Measurements are beneficial for the acquisition of new garments.
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/Me_zps47fcb862.png) Oh, I guess that makes sense? It's still extremely creepy though.
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/cube_zps363ec413.png) *buzz*
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/Me_zps47fcb862.png) Now, what should we put on the schedule?
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/cube_zps363ec413.png) 1.She can attends courses in school.
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/cube_zps363ec413.png) 2.She can perform work in exchange for currency.
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/cube_zps363ec413.png) 3.She can travel the globe in search of adventure.
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/cube_zps363ec413.png) 4.She can go into standby mode and cool down her processor.
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/Me_zps47fcb862.png) So, learning, working, fighting, or chillaxing. Geez, I wonder what a ten-year-old with barely any coin to her name can do in this situation.
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/scytheneutral_zps5b697681.png) Daddy, you're not going to make me fight horrible monsters are you?
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/Me_zps47fcb862.png) Please don't ruin the surprise...

So we gotta set a schedule for the next few weeks. The numbers indicate how much gold an activity costs, respectively how much Scythe gets paid. Per day. Schooling is expensive, so I'd suggest farming first to rack up some easy cash. Your call, though.

Science, Tactics, Protocol, and Fencing.
I really want her to become some sort of radical politician.

Spoiled princess only. We need to prepare her for marriage and ruling the kingdom.

Only work in church and babysitting, and train up dancing, protocol, painting, poetry and science. A bit of magic later on.

Because hard farm labor is just the thing for a 10 year old girl!

We might actually make more money if we send her to do one of the easier jobs.

Just send her into the desert.  It'll build character.  Probably.

Besides, as long as she's in the desert you don't have to pay for her food.

No.

We have a perfect Magical User with Hades.

We will build a Magical Girl.

Yes, Bay12. We will make a Nanoha Mk2 with more angst and sadness than the original magical girl anime.

We want death.
We want sin.

We want evil!

Cackle in madness!

Magic training to the max, and send the girl to work in the restaurant.
She'll learn to poison people, I hope.

Yesss...we must have evil.
Evil always finds its way.

I'm telling you, just do it oldschool, like Legend of Zelda style.  "You are now 10 years old.  It is time to wander into the desert."  Tossing kids into terrible threats only gets them the Master Sword, slaying a great demon, and getting a piece of dat princess.

Isn't that what we all want for our child, in the end?  To put them in the desert?

On second thought, this.
Start her off in the forest, though.
Give her a sword and she's all set!

Farming until we can save up for basic equipment, then forest.

EDIT: Actually, she only needs armor.  Her magic attack should be adequate for the forest.

This is always a fun game to watch. Ever since Lizzie Shinkicker (and later on in a different LP, her exploits in working with XCOM, run by her father in a next life).

That was a hoot.

It is a crime that this is the last Princess Maker! a crime onto murder itself!

BURN THE VILLAGES!

Then again future Princess Makers seem to drop some of the most interesting aspects of the game and replaces them with equally interesting features. One unfathomable feature is that in much later ones YOU the parent actually have your own stats and abilities (they tend to amount to just... cash but still)

Lies and slander.

(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/Me_zps47fcb862.png) Let's start with the quintessential heroic job: farming!
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/scytheneutral_zps5b697681.png) Farming is heroic?
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/Me_zps47fcb862.png) Sure. Many heroes started out as simple farmers or something similar, until some antagonist razes their village, murders their family, and kicks their puppy.
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/scytheneutral_zps5b697681.png) But we don't have a puppy.
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/Me_zps47fcb862.png) That's the part you object to?
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/scytheneutral_zps5b697681.png) So you want me to become a hero?
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/Me_zps47fcb862.png) If you want to. See, it's not all black and white, it's a spectrum between both extremes.
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/Me_zps47fcb862.png) Personally, I incorporate a lot of anti- into my heroism.
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/scytheo_zps6edc64e6.png) I don't understand...
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/Me_zps47fcb862.png) Right, big words.

(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/gawdneutral_zps4f66d8b9.png) you're welcome

(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/scythehappy_zpsc0c6d102.png) Pony!
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/scythesad_zps8a29dd34.png) Aaaah the pony is eating me!
Hey, 30% efficiency isn't too shabby, that paid for this month's food.
Three more days, kid.
33% is even better!

(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/scytheo_zps6edc64e6.png) My hands hurt...
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/cube_zps363ec413.png) I have good news. Next month's schedule has been assembled.
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/Me_zps47fcb862.png) Great, but first I'll have to do some shopping.
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/scytheo_zps6edc64e6.png) Yeah, I've been cold lately.
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/Me_zps47fcb862.png) Oh, you need winter clothes too do you.
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/Me_zps47fcb862.png) Listen, while I'm in town you can go out and make friends or whatever people do, okay?
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/scytheneutral_zps5b697681.png) Okay.
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/Me_zps47fcb862.png) Now, remember what I told you about talking to people.
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/scytheneutral_zps5b697681.png) Never take candy from strangers, don't follow anybdoy onto their cart, and anybody with an ugly grin is a bad guy.
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/Me_zps47fcb862.png) Aaand?
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/scytheneutral_zps5b697681.png) And never talk to prettyboys.
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/Me_zps47fcb862.png) Especially not white-haired ones. They'll always be aloof pricks at best.

Fat, generic soldier? Safe to talk to.

In the meanwhile, I go get stuff.
I buy a winter dress.
I also buy a dagger and leather armour, the classic starting equipment of a budding protagonist.
I go back home where Cube and Scythe are waiting.

(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/Me_zps47fcb862.png) So what's the schedule, Cube?
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/cube_zps363ec413.png) First, she will acquire knowledge of battlefield movements and tactics.
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/Me_zps47fcb862.png) Translation, you're gonna study strategy
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/Me_zps47fcb862.png) There's two ways to become a successful fighter.
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/Me_zps47fcb862.png) The first is to be a dumb, yet determined brute.
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/scytheneutral_zps5b697681.png) And the other is to be smart?
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/Me_zps47fcb862.png) Clever girl...
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/General_zps36041364.png) You cannot afford this course for more than a few days. Come back when you have money.
Welp, didn't think that through.

(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/cube_zps363ec413.png) Second, free time for the purpose of recreation.
(http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z442/WymarSane/scythehappy_zpsc0c6d102.png) I get a week off? Yay!

It isn't as tempting as it would seem... 3 doesn't have Cube in it... and I refuse to play any Princess Maker without my Butler.

she's got magical reputation at eighty and is basically pleading us with her doe eyes "Please, let me become a kick-ass magic user so that I may raise an army of undead in the name of Hades."

Ps: I think this is the only game where a ...ten years old? can wear a 'leather dress' and suddenly lose morality. What sane father would dress the daughter like a slut?

After that brief conversation with Gawd, I think our hero lost all claims to sanity.

That puny knife was a waste of gold.  Her magic attack should be her only attack for the foreseeable future.

Kick-Ass!  With your Mind!

Always have a backup.

After she comes back, farm her out for another month then once you start having real cash roll in use that money to train her in either magic or sword.

The game has a mana system. Running out of fireballs to cast is, frankly, a bad thing if you can't continue inflicting the pain.

Also, apparently she grew 4 inches in a month and a half? But yeah, keep up the combat training! She will be dynamic battle mistress! Or something. I guess farming and babysitting (what? She may as well have proteges while she's at it) for money.

We're going to need sin, and a lot of it. Get her in combat school. Or magic if that's what you're going with, doesn't matter.

She should be in the Forest, not the Desert. The Desert is probably the last place she should be right now.

I still think she should be Medieval Gender-swapped Che Guevara. I don't care if the game doesn't have that ending, we should try anyway.

Even better is that dance class also gives significant Constitution(and therefore, HP), so it's useful for fighting.

Isn't the Mountain harder? Actually, I'm not sure, and I can't go play it myself since my sister is in the room and it would somewhat... akward.

Note that you can also increase sin by killing monsters, rather than letting them flee. The hunting job later on gives sin, but neither of them do it particularly fast.

Holy shit, there's a transparent color. In 15000 posts, I've never seen that.

Anyway, no, the difficulty goes Forest->Lake->Mountain->Desert. Mountain is only hardest if you count the War God.

She's a child of god who was abandoned to the mortal realm by her celestial guardian for no reason.

"Daddy, where's mommy?  All the other girls in town have mothers."
"Oh, you don't.  Because you're a child of god."
"Really?!  So I'm like an angel!"
"...sorta.  I mean angels are in heaven.  And you got dropped here on earth..."
"...dropped?"
"Yeah, the moon was your guardian, and just sorta left you in front of me."
"...what?"
"I guess god was too busy to care for you so he gave you to the moon to be watched after...  Hmm, I guess the moon was doing more important things too...  So here I'm stuck with you."
"W-What...?"
"Welp, that's enough talking for this month!  Let's get you back to the farm and we can have another nice chat in 30 days.  AFTER you go fraternize with the palace guard and AFTER you work on getting that tight little body of yours in shape."
"...ok papa..."

There's nothing wrong with sending our ten year old adopted daughter alone into the forest to kill monsters and steal their things, right? It's good that she's learning to support herself! Hey, we could be sending her to the lake to be stalked by pedophiles, fish-men, and deviant faeries. Though to be fair the faeries are surprisingly good cooks. Even if we did "accidentally" send her into the desert that one time, she steered clear of the gaping chasm that leads to hell, so all is good.

Technically he sends her in there with Cube... and frankly no one messes with Cube, he is our favorite butler.

He is right, he beat up Lucifon not Hades.

There is oddly enough a distinction (FOR ONCE EVER!) in this case.

Also Darvi your daughter sure likes to eat a ton... Is it true she can actually eat several gold pieces of food in a day?

Also I will spoil it now... There is no such thing as a proper tailor in the Princess Maker universe.

usually one of the endings has the daughter able to marry their fathers.
...
Of course we aren't that perverse yet, are we?
I mean, sure, there are endings where she becomes a concubine, a sleazy wench and worse...but we won't go that low right?

usually one of the endings has the daughter able to marry their fathers.
...
Of course we aren't that perverse yet, are we?
I mean, sure, there are endings where she becomes a concubine, a sleazy wench and worse...but we won't go that low right?
Would it make you feel better if I told you the first game I ever played of this ended with either the Hero or Sorceress ending (forget which exactly, I think Sorceress) and her marrying me?

Edit: If I remember correctly, delinquency is tied to some weird derivative of stress based on Morality and Temperance. Sickness is based off Stress and Constitution. Now I guess that is up to everyone if we want to raise any of those but if we don't this will be a problem in the future, killing whole months off our limited amount of time to forge her into something that will make the world tremble. What I'm saying is that a little work there isn't necessarily a bad thing. Also, put her on a robust diet, lets kick that constitution into high gear.

Sounds like the girl could use some discipline. Considering this is Indeterminate Date Fantasy Setting, send her to church. She'll pick up some manners there.

I can't recall what handles temperament...

You can also just talk to her and sometimes get lucky and remove her delinquency.

You guys see the painting to the right of lil' scythe? It looks like a creep looking through a window. The orange/yellow orbs are eyes, big red fish is the nose, small red fish is the mouth.

And it is watching our precious princess all day.

Watching. Waiting.

Plotting.

Yeah, housework is basically the only thing that increases Temperament.

Delinquent at ten, what a feat.
Funnily enough, it's easier to make her delinquent at ten. As she gets older, she gets more tolerant of stress, although I'm not sure if it's because of increasing stats or she just mellows out as she grows.

Not to mention, Constitution increases HP, so lasting longer in a fight isn't a bad thing. Dance class is a faster(though probably more expensive) alternative to robust dieting. It also increases Charisma, which probably increases the rate of ugly rich men trying to pick her up, and we don't want that, do we? ...Do we?
Robust dieting also has a minor disadvantage of extra weight gain, which I think only restricts what dresses she may wear, but there's an easy way to handle that. Vacation at the beach during summer.

What truly TRUELY sucks... is eventually Constitution ends up being a non-factor for fights. Since another MUCH harder to increase stat will essentially be your HP.

We'd be better off increasing Combat Defense. You don't need HP if you can't get hit.

We can just passively train HP anyhow by stuffing food down her throat.

After that brief conversation with Gawd, I think our hero lost all claims to sanity.
It wasn't when he challenged the Prince of Hell, one of the most powerful beings in the universe, to single combat...for the heck of it?
Or when he was born?

Also Darvi your daughter sure likes to eat a ton... Is it true she can actually eat several gold pieces of food in a day?
In the Princess-Maker-Verse, as with many fantasy universes, a combination of alchemy, crust composition, and adventurers screwing with the economy that causes the value of the gold piece to typically be much lower and less stable. It ranges from "about half a penny" to "several dollars" most of the time.

Anyways...let's try the whole "being nice" thing for once, and talk to her nicely but firmly. Or something like that. Then send her to do something that relaxes her while ideally earning money. If catharsis is a feature, we could send her to kill monsters.

You guys, maybe. I have never challenged such a being to single combat, which is how I reached the Great Wyrm category. That, and a knack for picking good minions and keeping adventurers away.

Why not cooking? If she wins the cooking contest she can eat the egg for a big 50 point bonus to con(I think) or keep the egg for 100 points in sensitivity, but talking to the Jester will raise sensitivity anyway.

Since it looks like we need some gameplay suggestions...

I say we don't even worry about her little anti-authoritarian delinquency. It's healthy. Let her cool down on her own and once she does send her adventuring some more. Stop buying weapons and armor. She can find that on her own. Send her to the snow to get a weapon. Tell her to just run away any wolves she sees, and ask every stranger she meets for candy. Strangers have lots of candy. It's part of their job description, and if she's good she can be a stranger when she grows up too and always have candy. The faeries in the forest will teach her how to make it.

What could go wrong?

This sounds like an excellent plan.

Besides, anime seems to indicate that juvenile delinquents are usually main characters with a heart of gold anyway.

Or people waiting to be beaten up by said main characters, but we can handle that by sucking up to anyone who manages to beat her. Or swearing to overtake them at any cost.

Well usually the way to go is just to ignore her delinquency but not to do things that tend to end badly with the delinquent (for example letting her time off by herself).

A family vacation works excellently and I even suggest discovering what vacation does what.

I tend to visit the mountains at any time of the year and the beach when I feel she would need to loose a bit of weight.
However I would advise against visiting the beach at winter, it's a rather dull scene.

Perhaps the most awesome line I have ever seen spout!

Never really got into this game. Thinking I should probably play it again because of the madness, unfortunately I have no PC and installing it on my future wife's laptop might look a bit... bizarre.

I like the idea of a mad religious person. Perhaps one full of magic, if possible? Because every religious nut-head needs to blow things up.
