Other Games / Desynced. Who needs belts when you have bots
« on: March 20, 2024, 08:19:10 pm »
I stumbled upon this game on Steam and it is awesome. I just lost 3 days of my life to it since I bought it.
Imagine a game like factorio , but without the belt spaghetti.
Everything is transported by bots (and later, drones and shuttles).
The map is infinite. It is full 3D.
Everything is highly modular. You can install the same modules both in buildings as well as in your bots. There's small, medium, large and internal slots, and tons of research for many many modules to fill them with.
It also has programming. You can program extremely complex behaviours for your bots if you so wish. The game can also be played just fine without it.

It is still EA, but already has many hours of content, including story missions, and it scratches both the RTS- as well as the factory building itch in a pleasant way. Updates are very regular. It has multiplayer, coop as well as pvp.
It also runs very smooth. Loading your game is instant, no loading screens, not even a blink.

DF Suggestions / mandate manager

An option in the work orders to automate mandate production fulfillment would be awesome.

DF Gameplay Questions / Can dwarves join a religion group?
« on: January 17, 2023, 06:39:43 pm »
Most of my starting dwarves worshipped Pethit, but no organised religon to Pethit was present.
My fort only had 3 organised religions, dedicated to a less popular deity, one with 4 members and two with 1 member.

Now out of my 21 dwarves, suddenly 10 dwarves, including most of my starting dwarf Pethit worshippers worship The Doctrines of Cavorting, a Pethit religion.
I noticed because the game threw me a priest and temple petition alert.

I did just get a single immigrant, he is also one of the members. Can a single immigrant convert half the fortress when he has just arrived?

If not I just witnessed a new religion forming in fortress mode

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Filled minecarts and filled jugs are invisible
« on: January 17, 2023, 09:55:47 am »
I thought it was just minecarts that disappear from view when there's anything in them, but it's jugs (with honey) too. There's no sprite for them. They have no sprite in the stocks screen either if they're filled.

DF Gameplay Questions / Can animals be homosexual?
« on: January 14, 2023, 05:02:13 pm »
The breeding pair of dogs that I brought on embark (they were puppies on embark, trained wardogs now) have not produced a single litter in 4 years time.

Do the sexuality tags apply for animals as well?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / tree growth could use a nerf
« on: January 14, 2023, 04:14:42 pm »
Even if you embark on a place which has sparse tree growth, in just a few game years it will be a dense jungle with how fast new trees spawn.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Obsidian swords bugged

I made some obsidian short swords. But they came out of the workshop as wooden swords. No mentioning of obsidian in their description either.

DF Gameplay Questions / Looking before buying

Is there any way to look at an item brought in a caravan?
Like, can I see what book or scroll I am buying?

DF Gameplay Questions / Simulating Instruments
« on: January 09, 2023, 12:11:07 pm »
Has anyone ever managed to get dwarves to actually play the instruments that are built and stored in a tavern? I have only ever seen them simulate instruments, even though there are instruments available.

DF Gameplay Questions / How to get rid of tigerfish?
« on: January 05, 2023, 05:33:37 pm »
The tigerfish in my river are breeding at an alarming rate.

Now normally, I would draft a marksdwarf and start shooting them.

But now that marksdwarves are broken, how can I get rid of the tigerfish without draining a river?

EDIT: Can ballistas / catapults hit a target in water?

EDIT: I suppose, with marksdwarves working after working around the bug, the question has become much less urgent.

I noticed that polytheist creatures sometimes can still get stuck praying / meditating to only one of their deities (even though their praying need to that deity is completely fullfilled and their other deities really need praying to they will still have the pink/purple worship or meditate job for their alraedy appeased deity).
This has been a thing for years, and back in the days I posted a workaround to fix the behaviour (sorry too lazy to battle the Lovecraftian horror that is this forum's search engine to find that post), but that workaround involves so much micro and hassle that it is too tedious (in short, you need dedicated temples to all involved deities, and you need to micro stuck dwarves with squad assignment, stationing /cancelling orders, and locking doors at the right moment so they bump into a locked door after pathing is set).

Suggested easy temporary fix for Toady and Putnam: until the root cause is fixed, disallow creatures from worshipping more than one deity. This will 100% resolve the issue gameplay-wise for now.

I have my dwarves' time being consumed by the following loop:

Dwarf equips waterskin. Dwarf does whatever until... Dwarf takes a hauling job.. When the dwarf drops the job item it was hauling, it also drops the waterskin. Dwarf does some other stuff until.... Dwarf takes pickup equipment job.. Go to beginning of loop.

My uneducated guess is that the waterskin accidentally gets added to the checklist for a multiple pickup/drop command, like how it is with dwarves dropping off plants after a plant gathering job.

Now it isn't a constant thing, usually it's just one dwarf at a time (out of 10 military dwarves), the dwarves do take other jobs in between equipping the waterskin and dropping it again.

Note that my military squads are set to No Uniform, and they are all Off Duty, not sure if that matters.

EDIT: the waterskins are also filled with booze.  Perhaps booze has a plant tag that makes it egligeble for multi-drop? Just guessing here.

Could this be related to barrels and bags with plant-based materials (booze, seeds, plants) in them occupying the same tile in stockpiles, not adhering to the 1 item per tile rule?

EDIT2: I followed another loop closely, using the period key to see exactly what is happening.
The dwarf drops the waterskin exactly 1 tick after dropping the hauled item (in this case, a log of wood). The waterskin is dropped on the same tile as the log of wood.

DF Gameplay Questions / Doesn't care about anything anymore
« on: January 04, 2023, 04:34:42 pm »
Is it just me, or is this trait now super easy to develop?
I am in summer year 2 after embark, and all dwarves and residents already have the trait.

All they got to see was maybe 3 dead troglodytes, a dead cave crocodile and 2 dead cave toads. The troglodyte skeletons have been lying in my tavern and temple for years though, nobody seems to want to haul them to the refuse stockpile.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / wandering sheep
« on: January 04, 2023, 11:53:42 am »
I've noticed a few times in a row now that there's sheep wandering through my fort, even though they are assigned to my pen above ground. They do occasionally wander to the pen area, but don't stay put there. I *think* only the sheep that were born in the fort do this, not my original breeding pair.

Not sure if this is intentional or a bug.
Perhaps unintended leftover behaviour from back when you could allow or disallow animals in meeting areas?

DF Gameplay Questions / Military woes
« on: January 04, 2023, 07:06:07 am »
Where are the buttons to assign food / drink?
Where are the buttons to assign bolts?

The former was essential to work around the rotting food in backpacks bug (the other workaround is to meticulously keep scanning for backpacks and forbidding them all), the latter, well, my crossbowdwarf has a crossbow equipped, and a quiver. The quiver is empty, despite me having bone bolts and some bronze bolts dropped by a dead monster hunter (no, they are not forbidden). He just won't grab any.

Also, I have an archery range and I have a barracks. My crossbowdwarf military commander is happily doing combat drills in the barracks, but not touching bolts, nor practicing archery. His squad is allowed to train in the barracks as well as in the archery range. He has a staggered training schedule.
His uniform is set to 'archer'. Drafting / stationing him also does not make him pick up bolts.

EDIT: additional info; if I disallow access to the barracks, and only give him access to the archery range, he just reverts to civilian duty even though he is on training schedule. Even ranged dwarves need a barracks assigned to even be considered for training, but unfortunatly, this makes them train in said barracks instead of in the archery range.
